About Human Resource Management: As companies continue to expand through growth and consolidation, the task of managing the workforce isn't simply the purview of the various and sundry department and shift managers. A Human Resource Manager is an essential member of any company's management team--documenting and processing employee grievances, handling matters related to employee benefits, processing and retaining new employee paperwork as well as documentation of ongoing employee issues, helping other managers vet new hire candidates, and a plethora of "behind-the-curtain" essentials that may not matter to the other managers working day to day to keep the company running smoothly, but are absolutely necessary to help ensure just that. Some very large companies maintain large human resource departments, with a variety of specialized positions.

One of the more important elements of a human resource manager's job is legal. Precise paperwork must be processed and filed when dealing with all manner of official documents for tax and other government-related purposes, such as W2s, I-9s, and supplemental tax withholding documents, just to name a few. Moreover, employee grievances, employer writeups of employees, complaints against employees, etcetera, all must be documented, copied to the relevant parties, and maintained on file. As unsexy as this sounds, this is a critically important responsibility, as many a company has found itself the victim of expensive litigation for failing to properly document and retain written information about an employer-employee issue.

Human resource managers also must make sure that employees are kept aware of all local, state, and federal regulations affecting workers and the workplace.

Demand is high for human resource managers and could continue to grow as much as 27% through the year 2014.
